Where it came from
Sunbringer's Touch was released in 2015 as part of the Dragons of Tarkir expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Set on the world of Tarkir, this block focused on a timeline where the ancient dragon lords had successfully usurped power from the khans, fundamentally altering the plane's culture and magical landscape. As an enchantment card, it represents the transformative influence of the Dromoka clan, which emphasizes communal resilience and the golden, light-based magic typical of that dragon brood.
The card features illustration by Johannes Voss, a prominent artist in the Magic community known for his expressive and luminous style. Voss was tasked with capturing the essence of 'bolstering'—a recurring mechanic in the set—which mechanically rewards players for strengthening their creatures. Upon release, the card was viewed as a niche limited-format utility piece, appreciated by players for its thematic resonance with the set's dragon-centric lore rather than widespread competitive dominance.
