What it does
Return all lands to their owners' hands.
The flow of time was disrupted; like a flooding river it rose from its banks. Tolaria was drowned in an instant that stretched toward infinity.

Where it came from
Sunder was released in 1998 as part of the Urza's Saga expansion for Magic: The Gathering, a set centered on the artificer Urza and his long conflict with the Phyrexians. The card was designed to reflect the chaotic, high-stakes nature of the lore, specifically the manipulation of land and mana that defined the era's narrative. It was intended to function as a powerful control tool, resetting the board state by returning all lands to their owners' hands, thereby forcing a significant tactical reset in gameplay.
The artwork for the card was created by artist Jeff Miracola, whose illustrative style during the late 1990s helped define the aesthetic of the Urza block. Miracola aimed to capture the visceral, elemental feeling of a reality-altering spell in action. While the card was initially received as a niche control piece, it eventually gained a reputation among players for its ability to drastically alter the flow of a game, securing its place as a recognizable relic of the Urza's Saga design philosophy.
