Where it came from
Swarmyard was introduced as part of the Stellar Sights expansion, a set within the broader Edge of Eternities trading card game landscape that emphasized cosmic phenomena and planetary decay. The card was designed to mechanically support tribal strategies, specifically focusing on insectoid and swarm-based archetypes, reflecting the set's thematic exploration of rapid, uncontrollable biological expansion across abandoned alien outposts.
The card's aesthetic was shaped by the game's shift toward high-contrast, bioluminescent art styles during this era. Illustrators were tasked with depicting the landscape as both a resource-rich environment and a claustrophobic nest, using muted, earthy tones punctuated by vibrant, toxic-looking accents. Upon its release, it became a staple in defensive and tempo-oriented deck builds, earning a reputation for its resilience and strategic utility in longer matches.
