Where it came from
Talion, the Kindly Lord, serves as a central legendary figure in the 2023 Magic: The Gathering expansion, Wilds of Eldraine. The card depicts a fey sovereign of the high fae, designed to reflect the set's thematic blend of Grimm-inspired folklore and the whimsical, often treacherous nature of Arthurian legends. This specific promo version features the signature 'story book' showcase art style used throughout the set, which draws inspiration from classic European fairy tale illustration to evoke a sense of storybook whimsy.
The art was created to emphasize the duality of Talion’s character, balancing a majestic, kindly demeanor with the underlying sharpness inherent to the fae. Within the game's mechanics, the card is recognized for its reactive design, rewarding players for predicting their opponent's casting patterns. Upon its release, the card was well-received by competitive players for its unique impact on various formats, and it remains a sought-after piece for collectors who appreciate the distinct aesthetic of the Wilds of Eldraine showcase frames.
