Provenance

Where it came from

The Talisman of Dominance was released in 2003 as part of the Mirrodin expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. It represents an artifact cycle within the set designed to provide mana acceleration, specifically favoring blue and black color alignments. This cycle was integral to the mechanical identity of Mirrodin, a plane composed entirely of metal, which shifted the game's focus toward artifact-heavy deck compositions.

The card features artwork by Mike Dringenberg, a prominent illustrator known for his significant contributions to the Sandman comic book series. His design for the talisman captures the metallic, biomechanical aesthetic of the Mirrodin setting, emphasizing the cold and alien nature of the world. Upon its release, the card was well-received by players for its efficiency in competitive formats, eventually becoming a staple utility card for decks utilizing its specific color combination.
