Tana, the Bloodsower

Tana, the Bloodsower was introduced in the 2020 set Commander Legends, a release specifically designed to support the Commander format of Magic: The Gathering. As a character, Tana represents the Saproling-dwelling tribes of the plane of Dominaria, embodying the aggressive, resource-generating style of play that the set sought to emphasize through its 'partner' mechanic. This mechanic allows players to utilize two commanders simultaneously, and Tana was purposefully balanced to synergize with decks that prioritize aggressive combat and token generation.

The card’s artwork was illustrated by Magali Villeneuve, a prominent artist in the Magic: The Gathering community known for her expressive, painterly style. Villeneuve focused on capturing the character's fierce, primal nature, portraying her in a dynamic action pose that reflects her mechanical ability to produce Saproling tokens whenever she deals combat damage. The design was well-received by the player base for its versatility and its ability to serve as a cornerstone for Jund-colored aggro strategies within the Commander format.
