Where it came from
Tar Pitcher was released in 2007 as part of the Duel Decks: Elves vs. Goblins, a product line designed to provide players with two balanced, ready-to-play decks centered around the iconic tribal rivalry in Magic: The Gathering. This specific card was included in the Goblins deck to emphasize the chaotic, aggressive playstyle associated with the creature type, showcasing the ability to sacrifice Goblins to deal direct damage to creatures or players.
The card was illustrated by Dave Kendall, who utilized a gritty, expressive style to capture the volatile nature of a goblin hurling tar. The artwork and design were received by the community as a functional addition to tribal strategies, providing necessary utility for players seeking to maximize the value of their goblin swarms. It remains a staple for fans of red-aligned deck archetypes that focus on resource sacrifice.
