Where it came from
Tazri, Beacon of Unity was released in the 2020 Magic: The Gathering set Zendikar Rising. The card depicts Tazri, a high-ranking commander of the Zendikari forces, reimagined after her spark-igniting experiences across the Multiverse. Her design focuses on her role as a leader of the disparate races of Zendikar—humans, elves, kor, and merfolk—uniting them to defend their home world from the lingering threat of the Eldrazi.
The card was illustrated by Chris Rahn, who captured Tazri in a dynamic, heroic stance reflective of her status as a commander. The mechanics of the card, centered on the party keyword, emphasize the collaborative nature of her leadership, encouraging players to build a diverse team to maximize her abilities. Upon release, the card was well-received by players focusing on Commander and tribal-synergy deck builds, praised for its thematic cohesion and utility in multicolored party-themed strategies.
