Teferi, Time Raveler

Teferi, Time Raveler was introduced in the 2019 Magic: The Gathering expansion War of the Spark. The set focused on a climactic narrative event where multiple Planeswalker characters converged to defend the plane of Ravnica. This specific card represents a younger version of the character Teferi, depicted as a powerful mage capable of manipulating temporal flow to stifle opponent actions.

The card was illustrated by Chris Rahn, who sought to capture the character's scholarly yet imposing presence. Upon its release, the card became a significant influence in competitive play due to its passive ability that restricts opponents to casting spells only when they could cast sorceries. This design choice proved highly controversial among players, leading to its eventual restriction or banning in multiple tournament formats, cementing its reputation as one of the most impactful cards from the set.
