Tel-Jilad Lifebreather was released in 2004 as part of the Fifth Dawn expansion, the final set in the Mirrodin block for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Set on the metallic world of Mirrodin, the card represents the resistance efforts of the Mirran elves who sought to protect their woodland homeland from the encroaching, artificial influence of the plane’s creator, Memnarch. The art was created by illustrator Matt Cavotta, who utilized the set's signature aesthetic of organic flora integrated with mechanical, copper-toned components to emphasize the life-preserving role of the character.
