Tember City

Tember City was released as part of the Planes cards in the 2016 Planechase Anthology, a collection that compiled content from previous Planechase sets. These cards represent the various locales within the Magic: The Gathering multiverse, functioning as oversized, landscape-oriented game pieces that alter the rules of engagement during play. The design intent was to bring a sense of environmental immersion to the tabletop, where each plane introduces unique static and triggered abilities reflecting its specific atmosphere and history.

The art and conceptual design of these cards rely on a diverse team of illustrators tasked with translating dense lore into single, evocative snapshots of exotic dimensions. In the context of the anthology, these cards were re-released to provide players with a consolidated set of tools for the format, emphasizing the chaotic and unpredictable nature of planeswalking. The cards were generally well-received by fans of the format for their mechanical complexity and the expanded utility they provided for casual, multi-player gameplay.
