Temple Garden was first introduced as a reprint in the 2012 set Return to Ravnica, serving as a cornerstone of the Selesnya Conclave’s identity within the Magic: The Gathering multiverse. It was originally designed to provide mana flexibility for decks utilizing green and white spells, featuring the 'shock land' mechanic that allows a player to pay two life to have the card enter the battlefield untapped. This design remains a fundamental utility in both Standard and eternal formats, valued for its efficiency and role in stabilizing complex multicolor strategies.

The art for this iteration was crafted by artist Adam Paquette, who aimed to evoke the lush, communal architecture of Ravnica's nature-aligned guild. Paquette focused on the juxtaposition of white stone structures overgrown with vibrant greenery, successfully capturing the Selesnya aesthetic of blending urban growth with organic life. The card was received warmly by the player base, largely because it provided essential land support for the guild's signature token-based playstyles while maintaining the aesthetic continuity expected from a return to the Ravnica setting.
