Where it came from
Temur Monument was released as part of the Khans of Tarkir block in the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. It represents the ancient, spiritual legacies of the Temur Frontier, a clan on the plane of Tarkir that values survival, ferocity, and ancestral connection. The card was designed to support the color identity of the Temur clan, which utilizes blue, red, and green mana, providing mechanical benefits that emphasize the clan's focus on creature-based strategies.
The art for this piece was illustrated by Titus Lunter, whose work often defines the atmospheric environments within the multiverse of Magic: The Gathering. Lunter intended to capture the rugged, frozen landscape of the Temur territory, emphasizing the imposing nature of the monument against a harsh mountain backdrop. Upon its release, the card was received as a functional utility piece for players interested in synergistic deck-building, valued for its ability to reduce costs and provide card advantage in the appropriate tribal or creature-heavy builds.
