Where it came from
Terashi's Grasp was originally printed in the 2005 Betrayers of Kamigawa expansion, designed as a common white instant for the set's unique spirit-focused mechanics. The card draws from the lore of the Kamigawa plane, specifically referencing the patron spirit Terashi. Its design emphasizes the theme of 'soulshift' and enchantment-based interaction that defined the block's gameplay, providing players with a balanced removal tool that reflected the mystical aesthetic of the setting.
The version included in Modern Masters 2015, collector number 37, features artwork by Dave Dorman. As part of a set designed to provide a curated draft environment and reprint influential cards for the Modern format, its inclusion served to reinforce the white-aligned control themes of the limited experience. Dorman’s illustration captures the ethereal and imposing nature of the spirits found on Kamigawa, maintaining a visual continuity that resonates with collectors who appreciate the distinct high-fantasy art style of the era.
