Territorial Baloth

Territorial Baloth was released in 2015 as part of the Battle for Zendikar set, a block that revisited the plane of Zendikar with a focus on land-based mechanics. The card was designed as a common creature to support the landfall ability, which rewards players for playing land cards by providing temporary power boosts. This mechanical synergy reflects the set's thematic emphasis on the harsh, shifting landscape of the world and the primal, oversized creatures that roam its untamed wilderness.

The card features artwork by artist Igor Kieryluk, who depicted the creature as a massive, armored beast emerging from the rugged terrain. The design language aimed to capture the sense of scale and ferocity characteristic of the Baloth species, which has been a staple in Magic: The Gathering since the early 2000s. Within the context of the set's limited environment, the card was received as a reliable, aggressive staple, valued by players for its ability to grow in strength as the game progressed and mana resources increased.
