Tetsuko Umezawa, Fugitive

Tetsuko Umezawa, Fugitive was originally introduced in the Dominaria set of Magic: The Gathering in 2018, later reappearing as a special guest in the Multiverse Legends bonus sheet within the March of the Machine expansion. The character is a descendant of the legendary Toshiro Umezawa from the Kamigawa plane, representing a reimagining of a classic lineage through a modern mechanical lens. This specific printing features the iconic, stylized art frame introduced for the Multiverse Legends series, designed to highlight legendary creatures from across the game's expansive history.

The card was illustrated by Daarken, a prolific artist known for his dark, moody aesthetic. The design goal for Tetsuko was to capture the essence of a subtle, elusive infiltrator, utilizing the game's mechanics to represent a character who is difficult to block or pin down in combat. Upon its release, the card was well-received by players for its unique evasion ability, which carved out a specific niche in Commander and casual formats where small, utility-focused creatures are prioritized over brute force.
