Where it came from
Tezzeret the Seeker (collector number 1619) was released as part of the 'Secret Lair x Arcane' drop in late 2021. This limited-run collection was a collaboration between Wizards of the Coast and Riot Games, created to celebrate the release of the animated series Arcane on Netflix. By reinterpreting iconic Magic: The Gathering cards with themes and characters from the world of Runeterra, the set aimed to bridge the gap between the two fanbases while highlighting the narrative parallels between Tezzeret’s mechanical nature and the technological motifs of the show.
The card features artwork by the illustrator Junggeun Yoon, who adopted the distinctive, painterly aesthetic associated with the Arcane promotional materials. In this iteration, Tezzeret is rendered to mirror the visual language of the series, emphasizing his artifact-manipulating abilities through heavy industrial textures and a muted, atmospheric color palette. The card was received positively by collectors for its thematic consistency and its role as a high-profile crossover piece within the broader Magic: The Gathering universe.
