Where it came from
The Cabbage Merchant card, numbered 203 in the Avatar: The Last Airbender Eternal set, celebrates one of the most enduring running gags in animated television history. First appearing in the 2005 series, the merchant became a staple of the show's physical comedy, representing the collateral damage caused by the protagonists' adventures. The card was produced to honor this fan-favorite background character, immortalizing his persistent, albeit tragic, commitment to his produce business.
The design of the card emphasizes the character's signature look and his inevitable encounter with the chaotic forces of the Avatar world. Illustrators for the Eternal series focused on capturing his expressive despair, a hallmark of his appearances throughout the original series. By centering the design on his iconic cart and distraught posture, the card serves as a nostalgic nod to the series' lighter moments amidst its broader epic narrative.
