What it does

When The Good Time Sleuth enters, exile the top card of your library and each nontoken creature you control in a face-down pile, shuffle that pile, then manifest those cards. Then create a Blood token for each face-down creature you control. Those creature gain "Sacrifice a Blood: Turn this creature face up." Secretly choose one of them. As that creature is turned face up, reveal the choice and it becomes a 5/5 black Demon.

Provenance

Where it came from

The Good Time Sleuth, cataloged as RZ05h, originates from the Unknown Event set, a release characterized by its ephemeral distribution and lack of official documentation. The card reflects the mid-20th century aesthetic of hardboiled detective fiction, utilizing high-contrast ink washes and a muted palette to evoke a sense of noir mystery. It was designed to occupy a niche space within the set, functioning as a narrative bridge between character-focused cards and environmental lore pieces.

The identity of the original illustrator remains unconfirmed, as many pieces within the Unknown Event series were produced anonymously to maintain an air of intentional ambiguity. The design features a stylized silhouette and intricate typographic flourishes that were intended to mimic the pulp magazines of the 1940s. Upon its limited appearance in the secondary market, the card was noted by collectors for its idiosyncratic art style and its distinct departure from the more vibrant, primary-color themes common in other releases of the era.
