What it does
Trample
The Mycotyrant's power and toughness are each equal to the number of creatures you control that are Fungi and/or Saprolings.
At the beginning of your end step, create X 1/1 black Fungus creature tokens with "This token can't block," where X is the number of times you descended this turn. (You descend each time a permanent card is put into your graveyard from anywhere.)

Where it came from
The Mycotyrant was released as part of the The Lost Caverns of Ixalan set in late 2023, serving as a signature creature within the expansion's underground, subterranean theme. The card is mechanically designed to capitalize on the graveyard-centric playstyle prevalent in the set, manifesting as a Fungus Avatar that scales in power based on the number of permanents that have been put into the graveyard throughout the game.
The visual identity of The Mycotyrant was crafted to evoke the parasitic and overwhelming nature of Ixalan's hidden fungal biomes. Illustrators for the Ixalan block focused on integrating organic, cavernous textures with the game's established aesthetic, aiming to create a sense of creeping, inevitable decay. The card was well-received by players focusing on Commander and self-mill archetypes for its ability to function as both a resilient threat and a reliable payoff for resource attrition.
