The Pieces Are Coming Together

The Pieces Are Coming Together was released in 2010 as part of the Archenemy expansion for Magic: The Gathering. This set introduced a variant playstyle where one player acts as a boss character against a team, utilizing a specialized deck of oversized Scheme cards to dictate the flow of the game. The card was designed to function as a narrative device within this format, representing the methodical advancement of the villain's master plan.

The illustration was created by artist James Paick, who focused on a sense of impending architectural and mechanical alignment to match the card's title. The artwork features a looming, construct-like figure assembling itself, which reflects the thematic goal of the Archenemy—to steadily build toward an inevitable victory. It was received as a functional, flavorful inclusion that helped solidify the Archenemy deck's identity as a slow, inevitable threat.
