Where it came from
The Raven Man card was released in 2022 as part of the Dominaria United set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. This legendary creature card represents a mysterious, long-standing antagonist within the game's lore who has been influencing the character Liliana Vess for over a decade. His inclusion in this set was highly anticipated by the player base, as it finally provided a physical card for a figure who had primarily existed as a ghostly, manipulative presence in the narrative background of the game's multiverse.
The artwork for the card was created by artist Igor Kieryluk, who depicted the character with his signature dark, ethereal aesthetic and avian motif. The design aims to capture the character's manipulative and shadowy nature, featuring mechanical abilities that focus on generating tokens and disruption, mirroring his tendency to work from the periphery. Upon release, the card was well-received by players and collectors for its flavorful integration of established story beats and its utility in commander-style gameplay formats.
