Where it came from
The Thijarian Witness card originates from the Doctor Who trading card game series, which adapts characters and lore from the long-running British science fiction television program. The Thijarians themselves were introduced in the 2018 episode 'Demons of the Punjab' as a nomadic race of insectoid beings who function as cosmic witnesses, tasked with recording the final moments of those who die alone across the universe.
This card design captures the distinct aesthetic of the Thijarian species, emphasizing their mournful, hooded appearance and the solemn nature of their duty. In the context of the card set, this item serves as a representation of one of the show's more philosophical antagonists, reflecting the series' recurring themes of memory and the preservation of history. It was produced to cater to fans of the show's modern era, focusing on the character's unique role within the Whoniverse.
