Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded

Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded was first introduced in the 2012 Duel Decks: Sorin vs. Tibalt set. Designed to highlight the contrast between the established vampire planeswalker Sorin Markov and the then-new, chaotic red planeswalker Tibalt, the set sought to provide players with a balanced, narrative-driven experience out of the box. The card was conceptualized by Wizards of the Coast to represent an impulsive, painful form of red mana manipulation, focusing on random discard and self-damage mechanics that reflected Tibalt's origins as a human researcher turned demonic experimenter.

The card’s art, rendered by Peter Mohrbacher, portrays Tibalt’s jagged, horned aesthetic and his connection to the dark experiments that altered his physiology. Upon its release, the card received a mixed reception from the competitive community.
