Where it came from
The Timber Protector card from the Secret Lair Countdown Kit was released in 2022 as part of a highly curated promotional set designed to celebrate the history of Magic: The Gathering. This specific drop functioned as an advent calendar, featuring cards that spanned the game's expansive history, selected to appeal to long-time players and aesthetic-focused collectors who appreciate the unique, high-gloss visual identity of the Secret Lair series.
The design of this specific card maintains the structural integrity of the original Timber Protector while adopting the distinct, stylized artistic direction characteristic of the Countdown Kit. The illustration and layout choices were intended to elevate the card as a prestige object, prioritizing artistic flair over standard game-play utility. Upon release, the set was received as a premium collectible, favored primarily for its limited distribution window and the decorative nature of its card treatments.
