Where it came from
The Genesis card, originally printed in the Judgment expansion for Magic: The Gathering in 2002, was reimagined for the Secret Lair Countdown Kit released in 2022. This specialized collection was designed to celebrate the history of the game by featuring cards that spanned the years of the Countdown calendar, offering players a curated retrospective of iconic mechanics and art styles.
The 2022 Secret Lair version of Genesis features distinct, minimalist aesthetic choices typical of the Secret Lair series, intended to provide a modern alternative to the original fantasy-heavy illustration. This release aimed to cater to collectors who appreciate both the functional utility of the card, which allows for powerful graveyard recursion, and the unique, collectible nature of Wizards of the Coast's direct-to-consumer premium releases.
