Time Elemental

Time Elemental was released in 1994 as part of the Legends expansion for Magic: The Gathering. As the third expansion for the game, Legends introduced the concept of legendary creatures and multi-color spells, aiming to add depth and narrative flavor to the burgeoning trading card game. The set was designed to shift the game away from the aggressive, fast-paced play of the early Alpha and Beta releases toward more complex, long-term strategic encounters.

The card’s illustration was created by artist Jesper Myrfors, who served as the game's original art director. Myrfors utilized a distinctive, dark aesthetic that helped define the visual language of the game's formative years. The card’s ability, which allows players to return permanents to their owner's hand, was intended to introduce a high-risk, high-reward utility mechanism, although it is often remembered for the unique tactical challenges it presented during the mid-90s meta.
