What it does
If you have less life than an opponent, you gain 6 life. If you control fewer creatures than an opponent, create three 1/1 white Soldier creature tokens.
The gods are not always kind, but they do have a soft spot for plucky underdogs.

Where it came from
Timely Reinforcements was released in 2011 as part of the Magic 2012 core set, a strategic reprint-heavy expansion designed to provide a stable foundation for the game's evolving meta. The card was conceived as a white-aligned reactive tool, specifically crafted to assist players who had fallen behind in both life total and creature count, reflecting the set's emphasis on balancing aggressive board states.
The card’s illustration was created by artist Greg Staples, whose work often leans into moody, atmospheric depictions of fantasy warfare. The design focuses on the visual transition from a desperate lone soldier to a summoned squad of reinforcements, effectively communicating the card’s mechanical purpose of stabilizing a losing position. It was well-received by competitive players at the time for its efficacy in controlling the pace of games against hyper-aggressive decks.
