What it does

As long as there are four or more lore counters among Sagas you control, Tom Bombadil has hexproof and indestructible.

Whenever the final chapter ability of a Saga you control resolves, reveal cards from the top of your library until you reveal a Saga card. Put that card onto the battlefield and the rest on the bottom of your library in a random order. This ability triggers only once each turn.

Provenance

Where it came from

Tom Bombadil, card number 78 in the Hobbit Eternal set, is a mythic creature card that draws directly from J.R.R. Tolkien’s legendarium. The card was developed to capture the enigmatic and primordial nature of the character, a figure who exists outside the traditional power structures of Middle-earth. By positioning him as a high-rarity card, the design team aimed to reflect his unique status as a being who remains largely unaffected by the influence of the One Ring.

The artwork was commissioned from Omar Rayyan, an illustrator renowned for his whimsical yet grounded take on fantasy literature. Rayyan sought to move away from overly heroic interpretations, opting instead for a portrayal that emphasizes Bombadil's connection to the natural world and his rustic, jovial disposition. Upon its release, the card was well-received by players and collectors alike, particularly for its distinct artistic style which aligns with the classic, pastoral aesthetic often associated with Tolkien’s earlier works.
