Provenance

Where it came from

Trading Post was released in the Magic 2013 core set in 2012, designed by the Wizards of the Coast development team to provide a flexible utility engine for artifact-focused decks. Mechanically, the card was crafted to represent a hub of exchange, allowing players to sacrifice resources—such as artifacts, creatures, or life—in order to gain varied tactical advantages like card draw, creature tokens, or artifact recursion.

The card features artwork by Mike Bierek, who depicted the structure as a weathered, multi-functional shop nestled in a bustling fantasy landscape. The design aimed to capture the essence of a merchant's hub that offers something for every type of player. Upon its release, it was well-received by players who appreciated its deep versatility and its ability to act as a Swiss Army knife during long, drawn-out matches.
