Tragic Slip

Tragic Slip was originally introduced in the 2012 Dark Ascension expansion, designed by Wizards of the Coast as a flexible black removal spell. It was created to provide players with a situational yet potent tool, scaling its effectiveness based on whether a creature had already died during the turn. The card’s design encourages strategic timing, rewarding players for sequencing their actions to capitalize on the morbid mechanic.

The version found in the 2014 Duel Decks: Jace vs. Vraska set features the distinct, somber illustration by Johannes Voss. Voss sought to capture the visceral and fleeting nature of the card's effect, depicting a character slipping into dark, magical ruin. Within the context of the Jace vs. Vraska product, the card served as a thematic representation of Vraska’s lethal, assassin-like prowess, intended to balance the deck against Jace’s control-heavy playstyle.
