Trained Orgg

Trained Orgg was released as part of the Starter 1999 set, an introductory product line for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. This set was specifically designed by Wizards of the Coast to provide a simplified, accessible entry point for new players who were intimidated by the complexity of the core expansions of the late nineties. By featuring a smaller card pool and streamlined mechanics, the set aimed to bridge the gap between casual gaming and the more intense tournament culture prevalent at the time.

The card features artwork by Eric Peterson, who employed a visceral, high-fantasy style that characterized much of the aesthetic shift occurring within the game during that era. Designed as a high-cost, high-power creature, the card was meant to embody the raw, aggressive nature of the game's red mana faction.
