Tranquil Garden

Tranquil Garden was released in 2004 as part of the Champions of Kamigawa set, which drew heavy inspiration from Japanese folklore and Shinto mythology. Within the game's mechanics, the card belongs to a cycle of 'bouncelands' that provide two colors of mana while requiring the player to return a land to their hand, a design intended to balance efficient resource management with the tempo-heavy gameplay of the era.

The illustration was crafted by artist John Avon, a name synonymous with iconic landscape art in the game. Avon sought to capture a sense of serene, ancient beauty consistent with the thematic focus of the set, utilizing a soft color palette and flowing organic structures that evoke a traditional Japanese aesthetic. The card remains well-regarded by players for its blend of functional utility and atmospheric, calming visuals.
