Tranquil Path was released in 2001 as part of the Apocalypse set, the final expansion in the Invasion block for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. This set was designed to conclude the storyline of the Phyrexians' invasion of the plane of Dominaria, a major narrative arc that saw different factions forced into unprecedented alliances. Mechanically, the set focused on multicolor cards and mana fixing, allowing players to build decks that utilized more than two colors, a departure from the more restrictive deck-building norms of the time.
