Where it came from
The Treasure Chest card was introduced as part of the Adventures in the Forgotten Realms expansion, released in 2021 by Wizards of the Coast. This set marked the first official crossover between the Dungeons & Dragons tabletop role-playing game and Magic: The Gathering, aiming to bring the thematic flavor of D&D's dungeon-delving mechanics into the card game format.
The card features artwork by Wisnu Tan, who utilized a classic fantasy aesthetic to capture the iconic image of a mimics or trapped chest found in D&D campaigns. As a promo variant numbered 252s, it was distributed through specialized channels to provide players with an alternate visual expression of this artifact, which is designed to function as an engine for resource generation and card advantage during gameplay.
