Where it came from
The Treefolk Harbinger featured in the Secret Lair Drop series, identified by collector number 2766, is a specialized printing of a classic Magic: The Gathering creature card. This version was released as part of a thematic drop, designed to showcase artistic interpretations that deviate from the standard aesthetic of the game's core sets. The card itself was originally introduced in the 2007 Lorwyn set, designed to function as a tribal tutor, allowing players to search their libraries for treefolk cards to reinforce the game's focus on creature-type synergy.
The artistic direction for this Secret Lair edition emphasizes a distinct, stylized approach characteristic of the curation process for the drop series. By commissioning new illustrations for established cards, Wizards of the Coast intended to provide collectors with visually elevated versions of utility cards. This specific iteration is appreciated by players for its departure from traditional fantasy realism, offering a unique visual identity that aligns with the premium, collector-focused nature of the Secret Lair brand.
