Treetop Rangers

Treetop Rangers was released in 1998 as part of the Urza’s Saga expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. This set marked a significant shift in game design, introducing the enchantment-heavy 'Urza block' that defined the competitive environment of the late nineties. The card was designed to support the green color identity, emphasizing the set’s focus on complex interactions and expanded mechanics during a period of rapid evolution for the game.

The card’s illustration was created by artist Jeff Miracola, who contributed numerous pieces to the game during this era. His design for Treetop Rangers features the distinct, stylized aesthetic common to the Urza’s Saga period, aiming to capture the essence of woodland scouts. While the card is a standard common-rarity entry, it is remembered by long-time collectors as a representative example of the visual and mechanical shift that occurred when Wizards of the Coast moved toward more thematic and synergistic set designs.
