Provenance

Where it came from

Treetop Village was originally released in the Urza's Legacy set in 1999, designed to provide players with a functional land card that could animate into a creature during combat. It became a staple in various formats due to its efficiency and ability to dodge sorcery-speed removal, eventually earning a reprint in the Tenth Edition Core Set. The Tenth Edition promo version, marked as collector number 2, features the distinctive frame and art treatment associated with the 2007 core set release.

The artwork for this card was commissioned from veteran fantasy illustrator Rob Alexander, a long-time contributor to the Magic: The Gathering aesthetic. Known for his lush landscape work, Alexander aimed to capture the organic, defensive nature of the treefolk-inspired land. His contribution to the Tenth Edition promo run was well-received by the player base for maintaining the classic, atmospheric style that defined the card's original identity while adapting to the updated card frame of the era.
