Where it came from
Trostani, Three Whispers was released in the 2024 Magic: The Gathering set Murders at Karlov Manor. The card depicts the Selesnyan Conclave's spiritual leader as she appears during the high-stakes investigative narrative of the set, which focuses on a series of mysterious killings on the plane of Ravnica. This iteration captures the character's triune nature, translated into a mechanical design that emphasizes group combat and creature buffing, fitting her role as a symbol of unity and collective strength within her guild.
The artwork was created by illustrator Anna Steinbauer, who has been a frequent contributor to the game's aesthetic identity for several years. Her approach for this card emphasizes the ethereal, plant-like fusion of Trostani’s three forms, utilizing a soft, bioluminescent color palette characteristic of Selesnyan imagery. Upon release, the card was received as a nuanced tactical option for Commander players, noted specifically for the versatility of its activated abilities, which allow for strategic board manipulation rather than simple brute force.
