Where it came from
The Trumpeting Carnosaur is a rare card featured in The Lost Caverns of Ixalan set, released by Wizards of the Coast in late 2023. As a centerpiece of the prehistoric-themed plane of Ixalan, the creature was designed to capture the overwhelming scale and ferocity of the dinosaurs that inhabit the set's subterranean landscapes. The card utilizes the 'Discover' mechanic, a thematic nod to the adventurous exploration of hidden worlds that serves as the core narrative driver for the expansion.
The illustration was crafted by artist Antonio José Manzanedo, who focused on conveying the raw kinetic energy of the Carnosaur in mid-bellow. The art direction emphasizes a high-contrast palette and dynamic composition to differentiate the promotional variant from standard counterparts. Upon its release, the card saw immediate adoption in competitive formats, where its combination of an immediate board presence and the ability to cast additional spells from the library solidified its reputation among players.
