Where it came from
Turbulent Springs was released in 2021 as part of the Strixhaven: School of Mages Commander deck series. These decks were designed to integrate with the Strixhaven set, which focused on the academic life of five distinct colleges within a magical university. The card functions as a utility land, reflecting the chaotic and fluid nature of the magical landscape depicted in the set’s lore, where the environment itself reacts to the heavy spellcasting of the students and faculty.
The visual design of the card emphasizes the elemental energy inherent to the Strixhaven campus. As with much of the art produced for the Commander-specific cards, the illustration was crafted to highlight the unique color identity and aesthetic of the set. It was received by the player base as a functional, accessible option for mana fixing, providing a straightforward tool for multicolored Commander decks that require versatility without the high cost of rare or mythic land cycles.
