Provenance

Where it came from

Twilight Shepherd was originally released in the 2008 set Shadowmoor, illustrating the set's central theme of hybrid mana and the transition between light and shadow. It was subsequently reprinted as part of the 2009 Duel Decks: Divine vs. Demonic product, where it served as a key representative of the Divine deck, designed to contrast with the chaotic, destructive themes of the Demonic deck.

The card was illustrated by Greg Staples, an artist known for his atmospheric and moody style within the Magic: The Gathering universe. Staples aimed to capture the ethereal, protective nature of the angel as it retrieves fallen artifacts and creatures from the graveyard to the hand, a mechanic that highlights the card's role as a resilient mid-to-late game stabilizer in white-aligned strategies.
