Where it came from
The Twinning Staff was released in 2022 as part of the Streets of New Capenna Commander set. It was designed to support decks built around mechanics that trigger multiple times, specifically those involving copy effects or activated abilities, fitting the high-art deco and criminal underworld aesthetic of the New Capenna expansion.
The illustration was created by artist Igor Kieryluk, who focused on a design that evokes an ornate, magical conduit. The staff is depicted with a gilded, symmetrical structure that mirrors the card's function of duplicating triggered abilities, blending the set's signature 1920s-inspired opulence with the traditional high-fantasy look of the Magic: The Gathering multiverse.
