Ulalek, Fused Atrocity

Ulalek, Fused Atrocity was released in 2024 as part of the Modern Horizons 3 Commander set, a supplemental collection designed to bridge the gap between traditional draft environments and the powerful, high-synergy playstyles characteristic of the Modern format. This card serves as the face commander for the Eldrazi Incursion deck, representing the thematic evolution of the Eldrazi—an ancient, otherworldly race of cosmic entities central to the lore of the Magic: The Gathering multiverse. The design captures the Eldrazi’s hunger for consumption and their ability to warp the fabric of reality, centering on a colorless identity that encourages players to lean into complex, stack-based interactions.

The artwork for Ulalek was crafted to emphasize the creature's status as a horrific amalgamation of the three primary Eldrazi Titans: Emrakul, Kozilek, and Ulamog. Illustrators tasked with the piece focused on conveying a sense of shifting, unstable geometry and a scale that defies mortal comprehension. Upon release, the card was widely received as a definitive addition to the Eldrazi archetype, praised for its mechanical depth and its ability to provide a cohesive, high-ceiling strategy for players who enjoy long-form Commander games.
