Where it came from
The Ulvenwald Oddity, released in the 2021 Magic: The Gathering set Innistrad: Crimson Vow, reflects the gothic horror themes central to the plane of Innistrad. As a double-faced card, it embodies the transformation mechanic synonymous with the set, shifting from a curious, mutated creature into a hulking behemoth. The design by artist Jesper Ejsing emphasizes the raw, primal essence of the forest, drawing upon the trope of nature twisted by dark influences.
This specific promo version, identified as 225s, features unique borderless or alternate-frame treatment typical of promotional cards released alongside the main set. These releases are intended to showcase the illustrative capabilities of the Magic art team, allowing for more expansive, immersive portrayals of the game's creatures. It was received by the player base as a powerful inclusion in green-aligned strategies, valued for its ability to dominate the late-game battlefield.
