Unclaimed Territory

Unclaimed Territory was originally introduced in the Gatecrash expansion for Magic: The Gathering as a utility land designed to support tribal-focused decks. By allowing players to name a creature type and tap for any color to cast spells of that type, it became a staple for multicolor decks that rely on specific creature synergies. The card was reimagined for the Modern Horizons 3 Commander set, which sought to bring powerful, classic utility cards into the modern era with updated frame treatments and thematic consistency for the Commander format.

The art for this reprint maintains the flavor of a rugged, untamed landscape, consistent with the card's mechanical function of finding resources in unknown wilds. While the original design served a practical need in limited and constructed formats, its inclusion in Modern Horizons 3 reflects its enduring popularity as a reliable mana-fixing tool. It is widely viewed by players as a cornerstone of deck-building for any Commander strategy that prioritizes tribal themes over singular color identity.
