What it does
For each player, exile up to one target nonland permanent that player controls. For each permanent exiled this way, its controller cloaks the top card of their library. (To cloak a card, put it onto the battlefield face down as a 2/2 creature with ward 2 generic mana. Turn it face up any time for its mana cost if it's a creature card.)

Where it came from
Unexplained Absence is a white sorcery card released in 2024 as part of the Murders at Karlov Manor Commander set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. The card serves as a board-clearing utility, allowing players to exile nonland permanents and potentially replace them with clue tokens, fitting the investigative, noir-inspired aesthetic of the set's Ravnica-based murder mystery narrative.
The card’s artwork was illustrated by Magali Villeneuve, a prominent artist in the Magic: The Gathering community known for her elegant and detailed fantasy style. Her illustration depicts a mysterious, empty scene that emphasizes the theme of sudden disappearance, aligning with the set's mechanical focus on evidence-gathering and suspenseful storytelling within the game's broader meta-game environment.
