Where it came from
Unflinching Courage was originally printed in the 2013 Dragon's Maze expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The card was designed as a thematic successor to the classic card Armadillo Cloak, offering a hybrid of power, toughness, and lifelink to bolster creatures in aggressive white-green decks. Its inclusion in the 2017 Modern Masters set was intended to provide drafters and players in the Modern format with a reliable, efficient aura for creature-based strategies.
The artwork, illustrated by Greg Staples, captures a knight in a moment of stoic resilience. Staples utilized a dramatic lighting scheme to emphasize the divine aura of the card, aiming to convey a sense of unwavering protection. Upon its release, the card was well-received by limited players for its ability to stabilize games and swing races, solidifying its status as a staple uncommon in the sets where it appeared.
