Where it came from
Unified Front was released in 2015 as part of the Battle for Zendikar set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. The set marked a return to the plane of Zendikar, focusing on the conflict between the local inhabitants and the encroaching Eldrazi titans. As a white common card, it was designed as a scalable defensive utility piece, utilizing the 'converge' mechanic to reward players for spending multiple colors of mana to create a wider board presence of Kor Ally tokens.
The card features illustration by Johann Bodin, who worked to capture the desperate, cooperative spirit of the Zendikari resistance. The visual direction emphasizes a coordinated charge, highlighting the set's central theme of disparate tribes uniting against an existential threat. Upon release, the card saw modest play in limited formats as a functional tool for go-wide strategies, though it remained a situational entry within the broader context of the set's aggressive power level.
