Where it came from
Vaan, Street Thief, card number 467, was released as part of the Opus I set for the Final Fantasy Trading Card Game, which debuted internationally in 2016. The game was designed to bring the strategic depth of tabletop card gaming to the vast library of characters and worlds established by Square Enix since the late 1980s. This specific card represents the protagonist of Final Fantasy XII, capturing his origins as an orphan surviving on the streets of Rabanastre.
The card’s design draws heavily from the original character art created by Akihiko Yoshida for the 2006 video game release. Yoshida, known for his distinct, detailed aesthetic, envisioned Vaan as a nimble and optimistic youth, a sharp contrast to the more somber political landscape of the game's plot. Within the game's mechanics, this card serves as an introductory unit, valued by players for its efficiency and thematic faithfulness to the nimble, rogue-like nature of the character.
